About this lesson
Not sure what to do first for AMC 8 spring prep? This segment lays out a full-year AMC 8 plan with clear stages, what to study in each stage, and why pre-algebra comes first. You’ll learn how to set realistic score targets (13–15, then 18+) and what to do when practice scores fluctuate. Use the timeline to check if your student is on track, needs support, or is ready to level up.
A strong AMC 8 plan starts with building the right foundation first, then adding competition topics and timed practice in stages with clear score goals.
How should you plan AMC 8 prep from spring to test day?
April–May (foundation): focus on completing pre-algebra and filling gaps in less-emphasized school topics (like basic counting/probability). Avoid jumping into hard AMC 8 sets too early—your goal is readiness, not speed.
Target after spring: aim for about 13–15 correct to reach an early award-level benchmark, then move on to harder content.
June–August (strengthening): learn AMC 8 advanced topics systematically and start practicing for accuracy across all modules.
September–November (advanced + practice): continue advanced modules and add enhanced practice and mock tests. A common goal here is 18+ correct, while accepting that mock scores may fluctuate as weak areas appear.
December–January (40-day mock review): do a concentrated review cycle using mocks to diagnose and fix weak modules, helping stabilize scores at (or above) your target.
